Choosing a dosing system for your product

A practical introduction to volumetric cups, weighing, auger fillers and piston filling, and the product information needed to compare them.

Product behaviour comes first

The filler is the part of a packaging system that portions the product. Material flow, particle shape, fragility, viscosity and the intended portion influence which arrangement is suitable.

Begin with the actual product rather than a broad label such as food or powder. A photograph, sample and target pack weight or volume help clarify the requirement.

Volumetric cups for suitable granules

A volumetric cup system portions a defined volume of material. It is an option for suitable uniform, free-flowing products such as grains, beans or granular seasonings.

Volume and weight are different measurements. If the required result is specified by weight, the product’s bulk behaviour and the relationship between volume and mass need to be evaluated for the application.

Linear and multihead weighing

Weighing systems portion suitable products by mass. The range includes linear weighing on a granular premade pouch configuration and multihead weighing on several vertical packaging lines.

Material shape, fragility and handling affect the feeding arrangement as well as the choice of weigher. Include the feeder, transfer height and discharge path when assessing a complete system.

Auger filling for powders

An auger filler uses a screw arrangement to portion compatible powders. It may be paired with a screw feeding conveyor and either a vertical or premade pouch packaging machine.

Fine powders can behave differently in storage, feeding and filling. Share information about dust, flow and product changes, then confirm the filling range and required performance for the actual material.

Piston filling for liquids and pastes

The liquid and paste configurations in the range use piston filling. Potential applications include compatible honey, sauces, syrup and edible oil.

Viscosity and any particles in the product affect suitability. Describe the full formulation and the filling conditions so the pump and filling arrangement can be reviewed.

What to include in the enquiry

No dosing method is suitable for every material. Confirm the proposed configuration and application-specific specifications before ordering.

  • Product name, sample, photos and relevant handling characteristics.
  • Target weight or volume and the range of portion sizes.
  • Required production output and packaging format.
  • Any product changes, cleaning needs or feeding restrictions.

Turn the information into a project brief.

Share your material, preferred pack and production requirements to begin a focused equipment discussion.
